Polaroid portrait by photographer David Smith. The image was taken at a poetry slam event in 1995 at The Casanova Lounge in San Francisco and widely exhibited along with other photos of me and of area artists. The image has meant a lot to me over the years. My rendering of it on carved board with oils—note how the mood has changed. I also used this image in my self-portrait collage “Dear Big Dream Thanks” (2025).
